Senior Routing & Switching Engineer

Our client are a leading IT solutions company that is committed to helping businesses grow and compete in the digital age. They are looking to hire a senior routing and switching engineer to join their rapidly growing team.

Position Summary / Key Objectives
• Design, configure and deploy Routing and Switching systems in line with company design rules.
• Assist Sales team on technical projects and requests from the customer.
• Ensuring the customer SLAs’ are met for Deployment.
• Maintaining a consistently high level of service delivery.
• Mentoring of Junior Routing and Switching Engineer.
• Serve as an escalation point for the Support team in regards of Routing and Switching technology Incidents and requests.
• Reporting.

Primary Activities
• Deploy technical projects & bespoke configurations on customer premises (remote or on-Site).
• Act as a Technical lead for site deployments.
o TroubleshootingTechnical investigationsRoute cause Reports.
o Assist the Project Manager with Change Requests in regards to your deployments.
• Perform and Process Technical Surveys & Audits.
• Documentation:
o Identifying areas where processes can be improved
ewly implemented (Internal and Customers specific).
o Update/maintain Routing and Switching documentation and procedures.
• Ensure sufficient Logs/detail collected for technical escalation or reassignment to 3rd Party Providers.
• Mentoring of Junior Routing and Switching Engineer.
o In their daily tasks and fault finding echnical improvement.
o In adapting to new Technology.
o In expanding their Routing and Switching/Networking/Security/etc… Skills.
• Liaising with 3rd parties where necessary to ensure an efficient and expeditious resolution to Incidents/Requests are achieved within the contractual SLA.

• Reporting:
o Assist with Monthly Activity Reports and Weekly Updates on Project Deployments.
o Liaise with the Project Manager to ensure projects are completed within the estimated time scale.

• A good understanding of ITIL Process.
• A good understanding of Networking Technologies & Protocols.
• A good understanding of Network Management Applications such as Cisco Prime
• A strong knowledge of the Cisco Routing and Switching Portfolio.
• Ability to deploy and maintain the following in accordance with Cisco Architecture guidelines:
o Cisco Catalyst switches portfolio 2K/3K/4K/6K
o Cisco Wireless 2500 and 5500 controllers
o Cisco access points
• Knowledge of any of the following would be advantageous but is not mandatory:
o Cisco ISE
o Cisco AnyConnect applications such as NAM and ISE compliance module
o 802.1x with native Windows supplicant
o Aruba/HPE wireless
o HPE switches
o Aruba/HPE Clear Pass
o Nexus data centre products 2K/5K/7K
o VMWare (Ver 5/6).
o Cisco UCS-C/B servers.
• Fluent English is essential
o Excellent verbal & written communication skills in English
• Additional language skills are advantagous (French/German/Spanish/Russian/Polish)
• Ability to use Microsoft applications, Word, Excel, Visio and Outlook
• Creative and analytical problem solving mindset.

• 3-5 years of proven experience in an R&S environment supporting customer networks

• Cisco certifications are desired (Should be current and valid)
o Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching highly desirable.
o Working towards CCNP Routing and Switching (preferably completed at a minimum the modules CIPTV1 and CIPTV2).
o Cisco CCNA or CCNP Datacentre highly desirable.
o Cisco CCDA and CCDP highly desirable
• VMWare VCP 5/6 highly desirable.
• Graduated in an IT related discipline or similar through experience is required.

Additional requirements
• Person would need to be able to travel and spend time away from home for short periods of time.
• Have a clean valid UK driving license.
• Willing to commute to our office in Worcester for the initial period of employment or relocate, possibility of homeworking following the employee probationary period would be decided on, on a case by case basis.
